The Jewellery of Generations
A Name Carried Through Generations Akaoui has never known another trade. Ours is a family of jewellers, who's craft was passed down from father to son for over a century.
It began with gemstones traded across the Levant region, where the family’s connection to jewellery and precious stones first developed through trade between Akko and the surrounding region.
In 1935, brothers Elias and Edward Akaoui opened the first Akaoui boutique in Downtown Cairo.
What followed was a golden era: five ateliers, staffed by Italian, Greek and Jewish master craftsmen, producing pieces for royals, dignitaries and the stars of the silver screen. The Akaoui name had became synonymous with the fine craftsmanship of watches and jewellery, with its popularity now woven deeply into Cairo's cultural fabric.
The boutiques welcomed generations of loyal clients alongside artists, public figures, and international visitors. Jewellery was approached personally — selected with care, discussed closely, and often created or restored within the house’s workshops.
After the revolution, Elias withdrew from the jewellery business to write and it fell to his son, Nagui, to take the business forward in a new direction. Nagui began designing and manufacturing jewellery pieces and imported Italian goods, refusing to compromise on quality. So much so, that clients today can still be seen wearing the jewellery they bought from him over 30 years ago.
Across the generations the story continues, today Michael and Mark have continued that inheritance, taking over the business and devoting their passion to the craft. They hand select each piece with the same conviction, pieces to be worn, remembered and loved for generations to come, as it has always been.
