About Akaoui
A House of Jewellery for Four Generations
The story of Akaoui began in the Levant, where the family’s connection to jewellery and precious stones first developed through trade between Akka and the surrounding region.
In 1935, brothers Elias and Edward Akaoui opened the first Akaoui boutique in Downtown Cairo. Located among the city’s theatres, cinemas, and cafés, the house became known for jewellery, imported Swiss watches, and carefully selected European pieces that reflected the cosmopolitan spirit of Cairo at the time.

As the business grew, Akaoui expanded into several boutiques and workshops across Cairo, including locations on Soliman Pasha Street and Fouad Street. Many of the craftsmen and staff working within the house came from Italian, French, and other European communities living in Egypt, helping shape the character of the house during its early years.
The boutiques welcomed generations of loyal clients alongside artists, public figures, and international visitors. Jewellery was approached personally — selected with care, discussed closely, and often created or restored within the house’s workshops.

The years following the 1952 Revolution transformed much of Downtown Cairo. As foreign communities gradually left the country, several boutiques and workshops eventually closed over time. Elias Akaoui later stepped away, leaving Edward Akaoui to continue managing the business through a changing city and a changing era.
In 1992, Nagui Akaoui opened the Korba boutique in Heliopolis, beginning a new chapter for the house. The focus gradually evolved toward curating distinctive jewellery and exceptional pieces sourced from Italy and abroad, chosen for their craftsmanship, character, and enduring style.
Today, Mark and Michael Akaoui continue this direction at the Korba boutique, personally selecting pieces while preserving the values that have shaped the house for generations.
Akaoui remains a family house rooted in heritage, craftsmanship, and a lasting appreciation for jewellery with meaning.
